What is Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year or Korean New Year also known as Seollal, is the first day of the lunar Korean calendar.  It is one of the most celebrated national holidays in Korea. The celebration lasts three days: the day before Korean New Year day, Korean New Year day itself, and the day after Korean New Year day. In 2018, The Korean New Year falls on Friday, February 16, 2018.

Let’s Learn A Bit About Korean Lunar New Year Tradition

According to KTO Visit Korea website, While many observe Sinjeong (Solar New Year; January 1 of the Gregorian/Western calendar), most Koreans celebrate Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year).

Korean Lunar New Year is more than just a holiday to mark the beginning of a new year. It is truly a special occasion for Korean people. Not only is it a time for paying respect to ancestors, but it is also an opportunity to catch up with family members.

During Seollal, Koreans usually wear hanbok (traditional clothes), perform ancestral rites, play folk games, eat traditional foods, listen to stories and talk well into the night.

Blackpink Lisa who is foreigner (comes from Thailand) is likely celebrating Korean Lunar New Year with Jisoo’s family this time. Blackpink Jisoo just shared sweetest photos with her nephew and Lisa.

This is too sweet 😭 Last year, Blackpink Jisoo was back to the dorm earlier during the holiday because Lisa was alone. Jisoo ya, thank you for taking care of Lisa.

No wonder during radio interview Lisa said she really wants to be Jisoo’s younger sister. Even though you usually show child-like personality, actually you are the best unnie who takes care of young members.
